Exposure Ignites Creativity

How exploring your style brings self awareness

I read a book once who's message was this: access to language is access to more complex individual thought. In the book the society is raised with only a fraction of the dictionary, predetermined and approved words only by the powers that be; with the intent to funnel everyone into the same thoughts and conclusions. It asserted that without a robust vocabulary to express ourselves, our understanding of our own experiences would be limited.

While scrolling on pinterest recently I made the connection that this premise could be applied to personal style as well.

I thought about the work I do with clients, where the clothes I offer them reveal a not yet explored part of themselves. That before our work, they were funneled into the same outfits they bought at the same stores as everyone else, erasing all tools for individuality, self expression and even self understanding.

I thought about myself, watching fashion creators wear outfits that reflect my taste and style but are woefully out of budget; and I thought about pinterest as I scrolled to find inspiration for garments I could make myself or find more affordably. Awareness of the possibilities out there, helped me find my most authentic style.

Personally, I've always felt as if my creative actualization lies just out of reach, usually due to lack of opportunity or funds. When I finally am able to graze that actualization, I feel the dissonant angst evaporate, and I'm left with a clear self assured expansive state of mind.

Exposure to other's art, ideas, creations, and discoveries, helps us develop our own unique art, ideas, creations, and discoveries. This is what I strive to bring my client's and followers on their journeys of self exploration.
